Savannah Raises Miracle Kitten Tybee and Comforts an Orphan Before Their Adoption

A heavily pregnant cat named Savannah arrived at Be Their Voice Animal Rescue in Atlanta in urgent need of care. She was underweight, unwell and facing several health problems, but she remained calm as the rescue team tried to help her recover before her kittens arrived.

Aimee Eldridge, the rescue’s chief operating officer, said the team did not know how much time they had before the birth. Their hope was to improve Savannah’s condition first, but she went into labour only two days later and delivered five kittens.

One Kitten Keeps Fighting

The litter began to struggle the following day. Savannah was also so weak that she needed to spend the night in hospital. Once she returned to her kittens, she started eating again and gradually regained her strength.

Despite the team’s efforts, four of the kittens died after developing an infection. The surviving tabby, Tybee, continued to fight.

Aimee remained cautious during his first week, but Tybee began gaining weight and energy. Savannah could not produce milk, so Aimee bottle-fed him while his mother stayed close, washing his face and giving him the comfort he needed.

Another Newborn Needs a Mother

Around the same time, a one-week-old kitten was rescued from traffic at an intersection. His eyes were still closed and he needed round-the-clock care.

Aimee took him in and introduced him to Savannah. Her response was immediate.

“As soon as Savannah heard this kitten squeak, she was frantic to get to him. It’s as though she needed that baby,” Aimee said.

The tiny newcomer, named George, quickly settled beside Tybee. Savannah cleaned and comforted him as though he were her own kitten, while Aimee continued handling the feeds.

As Tybee grew stronger, his playful side emerged. He explored, played and caused mischief, but he always returned to Savannah for a cuddle. Their attachment became impossible to miss.

A Home Together

When Savannah and Tybee were ready for adoption, the rescue hoped to find a family willing to welcome them as a pair. After almost a year in foster care, they left together for their permanent home.

At the time of the original report, George was also thriving and ready to find a family of his own.

Savannah arrived at the rescue in desperate need of help. She went on to guide her surviving kitten through a difficult start, comfort an orphaned newborn and build an inseparable bond with Tybee along the way.
